Nowruz (Eid) is not here yet but it will be the last year of a dictatorship's reign over Iran. Tomorrow the sun will rise for a real New Year. Iranians will collectively decide to help put together a 'large sofreh' decorative set up called Haft-Sin. It will be situated in the main city's square. Everyone will bring an affordable gift to place around the Haft-Sin. Small traditional cloths will be placed side by side while plates of grass 'Sabzeh's' are lined up united. All the sweet paste 'Samanoo' will become one...dried fruit from the lotus tree 'Senjed', garlic 'Sir', spice 'Somagh', vinegar 'Serkeh' and apples 'Sib' will be placed in larger dishes. Bowls with goldfish and pots of aromatic hyacinth will complete the Haft-Sin. Elders finish the sofreh by distributing coins 'Sekeh' and sweets around it. This is how the most colourful Haft-Sin will be created. And, this Haft-Sin is created not for one but ALL parts of Iran.
Tomorrow when this beautiful Nowruz arrives, all the Haft-Sins and the coins will be given to the poor so they are also able to have small colorful Haft-Sins to make their children happy.
